Hairdressing Tools of the Trade

In order to be successful as a hairdresser, you are going to have to get acquainted with the tools of the trade.  There are many things you are going to have to learn to use in order to effectively cut and style hair.

Haircutting Shears

This will be what you use most often when cutting hair.  The parts you need to know when it comes to haircutting shears are the:

§  Still blade

These will be used to thin and shape the hair of your clients.  These are important because you can use them without changing the style of the hair.  When you have cut the client’s hair and it still needs some shape, you will use these shears.

Clippers

Clippers will help you cut close to the skin on the neck when you are giving clients a short haircut.  You will be able to clean up the area and get a nice looking cut.

Razor

You will use a razor for many different things while cutting hair.  Typically, you will take an electric razor in order to get texture for the hair.

Styling and Cutting Comb

This is a fine toothed comb that will aid you when you are cutting hair.  You will be able to comb through the hair, no matter the chemicals that have been used, and cut with the aid of the comb.

Edgers

Edgers will help you clean up hair around the neck and the ears.  This is especially useful for cutting men’s hair.

Sectioning Clips

When you are cutting hair and need to work in sections, the sectioning clips are very useful.  You can section off areas of the hair you are not going to use right away so it will not get in your way.
